Well it’s that time again – Carmarthen Journal time. I`m sitting with a beer trying to think if anything I’ve done this week will be of interest to the folks of Carmarthen. Well I do hope so as I’m sitting here pretty exhausted so I must have done something.
Monday morning a knock on the door from the postman delivering a script!. Yes a script for something very exciting. It`s about some of the most iconic British actors ever and I`ve been asked to go to London next week to read through for one of them. I know I’m teasing but I really can’t say any more at this stage.
Last Tuesday I started something that I should have started 40 years ago – Welsh lessons. Yes a private class with the lovely Charlotte Carrington. I was so nervous as the first session was to be a test – numbers, colours and the days of the week. All went rather well I was the star of the class. But for homework I`ve been given GEIRIAU – now I`m lost! At some point I need to learn them – nefoedd da, and that’s all before I even start thinking about flying to Miami next Sunday.
Oh yes I must share with you the results of one of my mentoring sessions at Gower College this week. I usually ask at some point for each member of my group to tell us about their dreams & aspirations. The stories that they often share are really fantastic, often funny, some very serious, very honest etc. A young man told me he had a long term dream to be an accountant, so I told him in that case he would have to lose his humour genes.
“But…..” he said “I also have an immediate …… “
He really wanted a date for Valentine as he had never had one. He was lovely a proper gent. I told him to think outside the box and think beyond the obvious then I continued with my talk. After the session with my second group I was greeted by the same young man who told me that he had done as I suggested. Terrified that I had said something ghastly I was a bit concerned
“What have you done?”
“I’ve written my name and phone number plus my Facebook info on all the whiteboards in the college asking for a Valentine date”
This boy is a genius and certainly has looked outside the box – I couldn’t stop laughing as I thought it was so brilliant and madness. His phone didn’t stop ringing with possible dates – amazing. We can all learn a lesson from him. Have a great Valentine.
My old company the Carmarthen & District Youth Opera are performing the “Addams Family” on Feb 16th – 21st. I’m away in America so will miss it but do try and go as they are always fantastic. Break a leg CYO!!
